This place is further from the condo, it's located one block from the Strand and a short walk from the Galveston Cruise Ship terminal. When I used them we rode the bikes all the way from downtown up to the Seawall all the way down near the condos and back to downtown. It was a blast! Phil is amazing & will get you all set up. It's a full service bike shop that specializes in electric bikes! They offer a fun local island tour that last 2 hours. The tour will start slow taking you through a little history and some turn of the century neighborhoods. Then you'll venture out to the Seawall and see birds of the east lagoon, the busy Houston ship channel and maybe more. It's a fun way to lean about Galveston all on an electric bike! 2311 Mechanic St #110 Galveston, TX

A MUST eat place! Everyone who come's to Galveston, has to eat at The Spot at least once (you'll likely go more)! Locals love it too! American food, best known for their burgers, open-air deck and Gulf views! I love their tropical black bean burger, fish tacos (upgrade to the Mahi Mahi), Mac-n-Cheese, Greek salad and the spot sampler! They have at least 4 bars connected! Tiki Bar, Sideyard, Rumshack and Squeeze! It's a fun place with plenty to pick from!

Gaido's is a classic to Galveston! It opened in 1911, offers Gulf views, nautical theme and amazing food! Gaido's is full of history and it's another MUST eat place while on the island! You know it's a keeper when locals enjoy it just as much as tourist! The American red snapper Michael is something you won't regret trying, along with the 16-ounce cowboy rib eye and if you are into oysters they have great options as well! Don't skip dessert, pecan crunch, key lime cheesecake and the bread pudding are just some of the best!

City/town information

Primarily due to its busy port, Galveston was Texas’s largest, wealthiest city in the late 1800s. The Strand, now a historic district, was known as the Wall Street of the Southwest. But the city that had survived Spanish and French explorers, pirates, the Texas Revolution and the Civil War was ravaged by the monstrous hurricane of 1900. Luckily, not soon after it began a spirited renewal that continues to this day. Exploring this city’s layers is thrilling, and there’s something for everyone. Grab the whole family for a trip to Pleasure Pier, full of exhilarating rides and delicious eateries. Kids will also love the year-round exhibition Pirates! Legends of the Gulf Coast (PiratesGulfCoast.com), where they can dive into buccaneer history and artifacts and see actors telling the story of the notorious pirate Jean Lafitte. Check out the captivating Aquarium Pyramid, Rainforest Pyramid and Discovery Pyramid at Moody Gardens (MoodyGardens.com). A five-tier ropes course has just opened at the park. Daredevils can glide 60 feet in the air along the zip line for fascinating views of Palm Beach and the Lazy River. Seekers of more “grounded” activities will find that the arts and nature abound here, often together. After Hurricane Ike in 2008, area sculptors transformed damaged old oak trees into breathtaking works. On the Galveston Tree Sculptures Tour, spot more than 30 tree carvings tucked into gardens throughout the East End Historic District. Enjoy the many galleries in downtown Galveston. Every day is an event in Galveston, but several are distinctive. The huge annual Mardi Gras celebration in late February is the country’s third biggest (MardiGrasGalveston.com). Festivities begin with the Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade, now the largest umbrella dance in the world. Modeled after a jazz funeral procession’s second line, the event features decorated umbrellas and a good time for all. In early December, the Dickens on the Strand Victorian Holiday Festival features parades and nonstop entertainment by roving musicians, bagpipers and jugglers. Costumed vendors sell holiday snacks and Victorian arts and crafts. The Republic of Galveston, as locals call it, is an enchanting Southern city that has retained its elegance while honoring the heritage of all its earlier inhabitants, from Native Americans and the Spanish and French to pirates, outlaws, plunderers and profiteers. Written by Ellen Honey in marinalife.com The city is full of laid back locals! You'll find most of us in flip-flops, shorts and a t-shirt most of the year. We are a friendly city that has lots to offer our guest! We hope you'll come to love this place just as much as we do!
